Massachusetts Legislative Leadership Moves to Protect One of Their Own Rather than Lawful Families
As our members are well aware, on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 the Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey took action in a clear attempt to circumvent constitutional legislative authority that has placed hundreds of thousands of families and family businesses at risk!!
On Saturday, July 30, 2016 hundreds of Massachusetts families canceled their summer plans to flood the State House. Men, women, and children of all walks of life were knocking on every door asking their elected officials to act quickly and protect them from the actions of a rogue Attorney General. It was also important for the legislature to demonstrate that they are still in charge and represent the people and due process. Sadly, and perhaps predictably, the response was NO!
Early Saturday afternoon, GOAL learned through media reports that House Speaker Robert DeLeo said that the legislature would take no action on the matter. Sadly, GOAL did not even get the courtesy of a phone call from the Speaker prior to the announcement. The bottom line is that the leadership clearly thought it was more important to protect one of their own!
The Massachusetts Attorney General launched a campaign of confusion, fear, and intimidation against the families and family owned businesses of the Commonwealth and the legislature did nothing!
Gun Owners Action League (GOAL) would like to thank the many legislators that signed on to various letters expressing their concern over the rogue actions by the Attorney General. At last count 100 legislators, both democrats and republicans, expressed their concern in one manner or another. In the end, it was “leadership’s” decision to leave hundreds of thousands at risk of prosecution and persecution.
GOAL members should know this is only the beginning of our efforts to restore due process. There will be announcements forthcoming about what comes next. In the meantime now is the time to organize your friends, family, and club members and be prepared to act when needed. Make everyone you talk to, regardless of political leanings, clearly understand:
If they can do this to us, they can do this to you!
